A hollow pin conveyor still depends on correct chain-to-sprocket engagement. The hollow bore serves the attachment system, while the roller or bush geometry and chain pitch govern the drive interface. Treat sprocket selection as a separate engineering check rather than an accessory chosen after the chain.
Confirm Chain Geometry
Start with pitch, roller diameter, width between inner plates and the exact chain family. If a double-pitch configuration is involved, verify the intended sprocket arrangement instead of assuming that a visually similar short-pitch sprocket will be correct.
Choose Tooth Count
Tooth count affects sprocket diameter, articulation angle and polygonal speed variation. Very small sprockets make the chain articulate through a larger angle at every engagement and can increase speed fluctuation. Space limits, torque and desired motion smoothness should therefore be reviewed together.
Check Centre Distance
Centre distance influences available chain wrap and the ability to take up wear. Include the actual shaft positions, adjustment range and any idlers or guides. On long conveyors, frame stiffness and thermal effects can also influence practical adjustment.
Inspect Alignment
Misaligned shafts or sprockets can create edge wear, noisy engagement and unequal tension between paired strands. Before commissioning, check shaft parallelism, sprocket axial position and chain tracking through the full conveyor cycle.
Review Existing Teeth
A replacement chain should not be judged only by how it sits on a stationary sprocket. Hooked, thinned or uneven teeth can force the new chain into poor engagement. Photograph worn teeth and compare the pattern across the sprocket width.
